Ricky,
You better learn to keep your hands off my Marci or I'm gonna have to kick your ass even if it means I gotta mess up my hair.

Best Orgy Ever. Thanks to the band for all of their hard work for once again bringing a little happiness into the hearts of Atlanta's depraved souls.

Can't wait but all this press is making me scared of the

How much I am looking forward to that splendid occasion when once again we enter the Thermosphere. Perhaps, we won't come back.

Hey Y'all,

Am unable to get hold of anybody at club 29 to confirm details of Halloween Orgy. Their last calendar events listed are for last February. With the wierd wah that that place exists in, just wanted to confirm that this event is on as scheduled.

Also, above and beyond the elements that compromised last year's orgy, was, in my opinion the poor turnout (not to mention the general lack of costuming spirit for the Orgy) for what should be one of the highlights of the year for a certain generation of Atlantans. I happened to be listening to the Georgia Music Show on WRAS the night before the Orgy last year, and called in to tell the DJ about Thermos and the event, in the hope that she would publicize it on the show, as it rightfully should be. I think that the younger listeners of today should have the opportunity to find out about Atlanta's oldest and coolest still performing band, and that these annual Thermos shows should be given the cultural respect they deserve. So I urge you to spend a little of all the energy you expend puttig this thing on, publicizing the event and playing up the importance of it for Atlanta's anemic music culture.

That's my two cents. Cant' tell you guys how much we appreciate your efforts maintaining these performances year after year. Your comments after last years problems were scary, so we are thrilled that things are (hopefully) back on -- Club 29 and all.

Luv you guys.

My best time with Thermos? Lemme see.. oh yeah! It was 1995 behind Fuzzy's. Them had a CD he wanted for me to hear, so we went out back to my car to listen to it. A DeKalb County cop pulled behind us and arrested me for DUI, even though I wasn't driving!

Best prison sex I ever had!!!

Fred Widdowson - Monday, November 20th, 2006 12:29 PM EST
I saw them play in Athens back in the mid-70's. Wow, this brings back memories. How can I get lyrics to their great songs?

1lessjackson - Sunday, November 19th, 2006 1:56 PM EST
I appreciate Mr. Greenwood's offer of reimbursement and especially the explanation of why the show abruptly ended. I guess I was mostly upset from the fact that I had been praticing my "Simba, Watusi and Black Maumaus" all week long and didn't get to use them. I look forward to the next show, hopefully anywhere but Club 29. Maybe a April Fool's show sans makeup.

JLR - Friday, November 3rd, 2006 4:04 PM EST
I had a fabulous time at the 3rd annual Halloween orgy despite technical problems.
I say it's time to blow the joint and move this party foward. Smith's Olde Bar is an excellent choice. Saturday
before Halloween is the best date. If you're not going to wear makeup anymore I want Thermos' green paint.

Muffy Sinclair - Wednesday, November 1st, 2006 5:24 AM EST
I can't believe JA forgot about the "Prom For Fly Benefit", another great show even though the white guy was at the beach. I think she must be jealous because I was Prom Queen, unofficial of course.

Greg "justpassnthru" - Tuesday, October 31st, 2006 11:09 PM EST
No...this past orgy wasn't as good as the past...Club 29 SUX! as does their bar staff!!!and sound guys!!!But, still, to get to see Thermos live...well, you just can't go wrong with that!!! and by the way...SMITH'S OLDE BAR!!!AN EXCELLENT IDEA! Count me in!!!

Jane Ann - Tuesday, October 31st, 2006 7:56 PM EST
People need to realize that this is a one shot a year deal. One out of five shows(including the farm gig) had some technical problems that cost some time. Mr. Greenwood and company were gracious enough to give the other artists a chance to do their thing. The promos advertised three bands and guests, this is what we paid for. I appreciate the fact that we get to see this group of incredibly talented and unique musicians together again after 30 yrs. They put an unbelievable amount of effort onto making a great show. Sometimes things happen beyond their control, that's part of performing. If people would get into the spirit of Halloween night, get into costume and enjoy the party, I don't think a glitch in the machine would be as big a deal. I think the Saturday before Halloween is the best date and makeup doesn't matter as long as Thermos strips.

Thermos - Tuesday, October 31st, 2006 3:05 PM EST
I must admit this past Saturday was a disappointment for all of us. If you leave us a means of contact, we will imburse funds to those who feel ripped off.

Many mistakes were made. Some we could help, some we could not. The opening act started late. The sound system and crew sucked. I panicked when I realized it was nearly 1 AM and there was another act to go on (forgetting about the time change, too. My bad.)We had to rent the club for the night and we were also responsible for paying the support acts. That accounts for the $20 admission.

Making money has never been the primary goal of this thing. With that in mind, to focus strictly on music from the thermosphere, in a venue that has reliable sound and staff should be the goal.

1lessjackson has very legitimate gripes and we will do all we can to make amends. There is much discussion among the band members as to how to try this again. We are leaning towards trying to do this at Smith's Olde Bar and just do two shows of Thermoid music. We could use feedback/suggestions from those who attended this last event. Is the Saturday before Halloween the best date? Does it matter to you whether the band is in makeup or not? Give us some constructive feedback. I think we are all in agreement that this past event did not live up to the promise of past orgies.

Ask me, that was the best twenty dollar I ever spent. Sides the fact that that Thermos Greenwood fella held his Little Jr. for the first time, now I'm gonna be famous and me and Little Jr. are gonna be rich cause Thermos Greenwood is rich and famous and we're gonna get all his stuff. Now if I can find Uncle Daddy that Jerry Springer fella said we could all be on the TV. Plus I got out of the tool shed long enough to dance and do other stuff too.

1lessjackson - Monday, October 30th, 2006 6:52 PM EST
The 2006 Halloween Orgy Trick was on those who paid $20 to see the Diamond Lil' Marching Band with a handful of TGCP songs thrown in on the side. A far cry from the last two Halloween shows. Much disappointment.

The magic's in the dancing, lost in the music, becoming the music, being the music. You colored people afforded me a freedom of dance that has been my joy to share with more than one uptight white butt and countless women, wall dancing in a corner dying to dance out in the middle of the floor. We lose ourselves in dance. Who could be embarassed with such a rainbow of holy fools singing us forward?
Hope to be able to stay awake late enough to make this year's party.

cricket - Friday, October 20th, 2006 11:34 AM EDT
I ain't never paid no twenty dollar to see no green colored man sing, I ain't gonna start now! Ya'll must think I got rubber brain cells in my head, cause most of ya be my cousins an stuff. Ya'll was comin around to see me bout every day til my belly got all swelt up. I been tryin to tell that Thermos fella that my Little Jr. looks jus like him in the eyes. He won't even look. I'm gonna march my self right down to this "orgy" With Little Jr. an say "Look your lil boy in the face an tell me he ain't yours!!"

I saw this band at Georgia Tech outside near a bonfire around the time of a homecoming game in about 1975 or so, if I recall correctly. Maybe even earlier. I was about seven years old. I remembered the name somehow. When I mentioned having seen such a band, nobody ever believed me.

Good to see that you put to use some of my photos I took at Jakes back on Halloween 04. Variety show was fantastic. Hope you all will continue those special shows.

PS.
Maybe we can work out a special Theroms show sponsored by the Cultural Arts Council out in Douglasville like you did with the League back in the dark ages.

Another ripple in the force last night! The bad thing about opening a show is that you don't get to do your full set. How about a headliner show real soon??
Oh and by the way, here's hoping for a Hampton Grease Band world tour. Stupendous!

We made a ripple in the Force without a doubt! I was at the merchandise table explaining to some woman that the photos were taken by Jim Wiggins. She asked me who I was and I pointed to the B&W shot of Thermos with pigtails sticking out of the earholes of the WWI fighter pilot helmet. Her eyes got great big and she moved closer, putting her face right up to mine. I said, "Am I supposed to know who you are?" and she just moved closer. I thought maybe I saw a bit of Princess Waki Waki, but I thought she lived in Hawaii. Then, she made a little hula motion with her arms and I knew it was her. I couldn't believe it and I tingled all over all night long. It was more fun than the law allows and I can't thank everyone enough! I think everyone out did themselves this year. Fabulous costumes--the woman with the giant butt, the old lady in the car with ADL stickers, and the guy in the grass skirt and wood cone bikini top who danced his ass off to every song. The legendary Marching Abominables were great as always. Fidelity Teakwood singing Hey, Whiteman! was a gas. Even the mysterious Earth showed up. I don't think I've ever had so much fun. I've already talked to Diamond Lil about singing a couple of songs for next year. If there is something we haven't done that you want to hear, let us know so we can get it together.

All in all the evening of Oct.29 went well.We were received graciously by the throngs of youth(well sort of youthful)bathed in various types of sin, such as over indulgence in libation and dancing with sexual overtones. They were set afoot by this band of nor do wells called Thermos Greenwood and the colored people although their tunes were a bit catchy and melodic. The entrance of a marching band called the Marching Abominables was an abomination for sure but I must admit those swing tunes made my feet move a little.I was appalled when my beloved was attacked on the dance floor by a brunhilde type in full regalia, not to mention this green cowboy thing that was attached to her(see pictures to come ).Although we were a bit out of our age bracket, our branch of the Anti-Destination League,S.T.A.L.L,Stop traffic at league's leisure imparted their message with joy and revelation and will look forward to next year

IdaBelle DeWitt - Monday, October 31st, 2005 6:46 PM EST
I believe my most fond recollection of Mr. Greenwood and his colored ensemble would have to be Saturday evening, at 10:00 p.m., October 29th of 2005, at the establishment of Jake's Toad House. As president of the Madison co-ed Garden Club, and founder of S.T.A.L.L. (stop traffic at league's leisure), the Madison chapter of The Anti- Destination League, not only did I attend the function for some light hearted revelry, but also as a means of raising support for our newly formed organization. I believe we had influence on slowing not only traffic, but the very essence of daily life. To my delight, when I awoke on Sunday morning, October 30th of 2005, to dress for church, I found that time itself had been reversed for one full hour. Truly yours,
IdaBelle DeWitt

Richmond, Virginia, 30 years ago or so, raining torrentially, me and a dozen-or-so artsy hippie types splash and slosh upstairs to see and hear the improbably named TG&theCP.

While I'd be lying if I said I remembered more than random details -- a left-handed guitarist, a 5-string Fender bass -- the songs and performance left what appears at this point to be an indelible imprint on my memory. This, I thought, is what a great band is supposed to be.

It's thrilling to know that the band are still out there somewhere, doing it.

Some big room at Georgia Tech with a curved staircase. I had just assayed that year to dance with girls--more to life than just head-bobbin' along the wall, and it was Thermos that first poured the courage-oil onto my needy joints.

I just remember hours of elbows and hips and skank and some pretty girls. Is it my imagination there was makeup puddled on the the stage floor?

Then, and the funny thing, this is a happy memory-- on a break, Cheryl Doreen Cochran, in full cowgirl effect, found a reason, from the center of the floor, to go loud on boyfriend Dan Baird and threaten ass whippin' doom, which she continued as Dan slunk out of the room and she followed, along with the crowd's attentive guffaws like this was added entertainment value, and they both disappeared. These guys were my ride home. Rather than being bummed, I remember a happy glow that I had finally met some interesting people.

The band started up again, I danced and got home,
Doreen apologized to Dan all dovey for a week, and here most of us are today, still alive, minus the ingested combustibles, and glad enough to be. (Peace on those whose bodies can't be here anymore.)

To all you fellows on the stage, thanks for the love, rythm oil, skank, smells, and for
helping one more little narrow-assed boy learn that the world is definately not black and white--it's colored in so many ways.

From where I am, now, it was all good. Even the rough spots have a rosy glow from here. If you missed Halloween 2004 at Jake's, you missed a great time. I had a blast. I saw many familiar faces in the crowd, but I didn't get to speak to everybody. It was such a love-fest. Ick Driftwood, Romilar Wildwood, and Creeton Crestwood, made me feel at home and the incredible Blob Greasewood (the Q's Bob Elsey) did an unbelievable job on guitar. I only seriously mangled a few numbers and managed to remember most of the lyrics I was supposed to sing. Considering that we were on stage for over two hours, that's not too shabby.

I hope this page gets filled up with views of events, gigs, and general history of TG&CP. Onward beyond the threshold of embarrassment!
